EUGENE, Ore. - January 1 not only marks the start of a new year, but also the start of new Oregon laws. One of them is the "Ban the Box" law which could help people with criminal backgrounds get hired.
The "Ban the Box" law prevents employers from asking about job applicants' criminal history on employment applications.
Employers can still ask about criminal history in an in-person interview or when a conditional job offer is made.
